A Message from Welcome Tokyo: Why We Created the "International Flag Meetup" 💌

The International Flag Meetup Tokyo is much more than a typical language exchange. It's an event designed to build confidence in communicating with others by giving you a clear way to show how you can help them in your first language. It’s about creating an immediate connection based on your unique linguistic and cultural journey. 🌏✨

Here's how it works: At the reception, you can attach up to three triangular flags to yourself. The top flag represents your first language, followed by your second and third. But it's not just about the language—it’s about where you acquired it. For example, a Japanese person who studied English in the UK can proudly display the British flag 🇬🇧. Someone who learned English in Australia will show the Australian flag 🇦🇺, Canada the Canadian 🇨🇦, and the Philippines the Philippine flag 🇵🇭.

This system allows you to instantly meet people who share not just a language, but a common background and journey. It goes beyond mere nationality; it reveals the rich tapestry of your personal history and experiences. This event was born from a deeply personal journey. I, the organizer, spent four years backpacking through 70 countries around the world. During my travels, I often wondered, "Where do I truly belong? What country defines me?" It was a profound question. But what I realized is that my accumulated experiences and the time I invested in building my background cannot be changed or erased. They are who I am.

This journey taught me the immense importance of cherishing my own background and connecting directly with others who share similar paths. It’s about finding those kindred spirits who understand the unique blend of cultures and languages that make us who we are. That insight is why I created this event. It's a space where your past adventures and linguistic journeys become your greatest assets for making meaningful connections. Let's celebrate our global identities together! ✨💖
